Working with horses teaches more than riding. Students learn to care for and communicate with an animal, solve problems, take responsibility and work toward long-term goals.
A study of youth in 4-H and Pony Club programs found that young riders with stronger horsemanship skills also reported stronger decision-making, communication, and goal-setting skills. (Smith et al., 2006, The Professional Animal Scientist)
